Example
Jane Jones is a 35 yo female 20 weeks pregnant ( para 3, gravida 2) who is referred to you for instruction in general fitness exercises. She notes that she has gained 40 pounds with each previous pregnancy (but states that is because her babies were over 10 pounds each). Unfortunately she has not been able to lose all the weight between pregnancies and is now 50
pounds overweight (BMI 32). Patient reports no other relevant past history. She is a manager of a shipping company and works full time at a desk. Her work is stressful and her family life is busy (6 yo and 4 yo children at home). She knows she needs to do better during this pregnancy and wants to begin a pregnancy safe exercise program to minimize unnecessary weight gain during this pregnancy.
What conditions must be considered while developing an exercise program for this patient?
A. Risk for premature ruptured membranes and sedentary lifestyle
B. Need to monitor for blood pressure changes and stress
C. Risk for gestational or long term diabetes and increased BMI
D. Third pregnancy and a desk job full time
